    Current Position:

I absolutely love my position with the American Cancer Society (Community Manager, Relay For Life), I get paid to, spend time with some outstanding volunteers, do what I love and something I am very passionate about. I have been “relaying” for many years and now I get the privilege of calling it my career!”

Relay For Life holds a high importance to me not just in my professional life but in my personal life too. I “Relay” for my grandmother who passed away from cancer in the 70’s, my mother who is a five year breast cancer survivor (whoohoo!!!) and for my niece and nephew, because I hope that with the constant research, prevention mechanisms, and education that the American Cancer Society keeps developing, my niece and nephew will NEVER have to hear the words “you have cancer”.

Mary Payton grew up in New Braunfels, TX where she attended Canyon High School and ventured to Wichita Falls, TX to attend Midwestern State University where she studied Business Marketing and Mass Communications. While in college, Mary worked for a venue called the “Neon Spur” and Cumulus Media (94.9 The Outlaw). These connections helped her drastically when she founded “Texas Wishfest” which is an ongoing spring concert that has been adopted by a fraternity at Midwestern State that benefits the Make A Wish Foundation of North Texas. This is where Mary found her “non-profit roots” since then, she has served in various volunteer roles for the Boy Scouts of America, the Boys and Girls Club of San Angelo, the Leadership San Angelo Alumni Association, the Junior League of San Angelo, and has transferred from her volunteer role to a staff role for the American Cancer Society.

Mary moved to San Angelo to be close to her niece and nephew who moved here with their parents in January of 2011. Family is a high priority for Mary Payton. I volunteer my time in building a better community because I want to build the community that my family and peers to be proud to live in.  She says without the support of her family, she wouldn’t be able to do what she does on a daily basis. When Mary is not working or volunteering she is spending time with her family, playing Bunco with friends, baking, and spending quality time with her two labs – Jack and Fancy.

How to get involved with Relay:

I encourage everyone to participate in the 2015 Relay For Life on June 5, 2015 For more information about the event go to our website at www.relayforlife.org/tomgreencotx or call our office at 325-944-2500

    Doray Hill, Jr. - SA-MPO

"Whether you think you or you think you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford

I graduated with a Master’s in Public Administration from Angelo State University in 2007 and began working in the Planning Division for the City of San Angelo shortly after graduation. As a Planner, I focused on zone changes and zone adjustments. In 2009, I began working for the San Angelo Metropolitan Planning Organization (SA-MPO) as a transportation planner. My primary responsibilities included data analysis, transportation planning and coordinating projects that used federal highway and/or transit funds. After 2 years as the TP, I was promoted to Interim Director of the organization and in June 2012, I became the MPO Director. As the Transportation Planning Director (MPO Director), I am responsible for the overall administration of the MPO. This includes managing the day-to-day functions, budget oversight, strategic planning and policy implementation.

The San Angelo MPO is a cooperative transportation-planning forum that is responsible for planning the future of San Angelo’s transportation system. The MPO primarily focuses on highways, roads, bicycle and pedestrian modes of transportation. The MPO works with elected officials, local leaders, public and non-profit organizations, community groups and individuals to decide how best to deal with the demands on the transportation system. The MPO encourages public input and involvement from everyone and welcomes any input or suggestions for improving the transportation network.
